What is Chimney Relining?

Chimney relining is a method of repairing chimney damage or upgrading poorly constructed and unsafe chimneys without having to tear down the chimney and re-build it from the ground up.

Since the majority of chimney damage involves cracked interior tiles, sometimes it is easiest and most cost effective to remove and replace the damaged tiles. On the other hand, that can be a major task since it is meticulous work deep inside a chimney. Plus, reaching the sections of flue tile needing to be removed and replaced is often quite difficult.

In those cases, the best solution (and often a less expensive one) involves inserting a new stainless steel flue liner or forming a new masonry flue in the chimney center.

Creating a new flue this way has several advantages: (1) The chimney is returned to service in the shortest amount of time. (2) Most often, the materials are under warranty from the manufacturer for years. And (3) often the materials meet or exceed UL safety standards for use in chimney relining.

All in all, no matter what method is best suited for a particular type, age and condition of house and chimney, relining provides a cost-effective solution with a quick turn-around time.
